Introduction to Ceramic Jewelry

Service Description

This hands-on course is designed for both beginners and seasoned makers eager to explore the unique intersection of ceramics and jewelry design. Whether you're drawn to the tactile nature of clay or intrigued by the idea of wearing your own handmade accessories, this course provides the perfect opportunity to experiment with form, texture, and color on a small scale. Students will learn: Basic handbuilding techniques like rolling out clay slabs, storing slabs, cutting out shapes, creating texture, and refining pieces; How to make several varieties of beads and charms that can be turned into pendants, earrings, magnets, pins, buttons, and more; How to combine wire and clay together using pliers; How to decorate pieces with underglazes and glaze; How to use solid and/or liquid epoxy to successful. To Bring: Notebook/sketchbook and writing utensil. Old clothes or attire you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Your favorite pottery tools. Tool kits will be available for purchase on the first day of class for $15. If students would prefer to bring in tools for class on their own, the following will be required for this class: a metal rib, wooden rib, needle tool, wire tool, sponge, wooden knife, fettling knife, and trimming tools. Calipers will be provided for class use, but an additional pair of calipers is always good to have if you want to save multiple measurements. All skill levels welcome. Ages 16+ Additional Costs: Glazing and firing fee: $45 One half bag of porcelain clay is included in the class cost, as well as access to all hand building studio tools and nichrome wire and epoxy. Students may need to purchase additional materials in order to fully realize their designs, such as necklace chains or cord, earring studs or hooks, magnets, etc. depending on what your project ideas are. Additionally, Amaco Velvet Underglazes are available for purchase by the ounce so students have access to a wide range of colors for their pieces. Pay As You Go: Please note, you pay a $100 deposit when you book this course. If you do not pay the remaining $200 for the course at the first class, we do offer payment plans. However, the price per class increases to $58 each class. The deposit amount will be put towards your last 2 classes in this case. Refunds are not available once the course has begun. Payment plans are available for members and long term students. We do our best to work with the community to offer them quality ceramic education and resources.

Cancellation Policy

Bookings for classes, workshops, events, and private lessons which are canceled 7 calendar days or more prior to the class or event will receive a full refund. Any cancellations received 7-3 days prior will receive a 50% refund. Any and all cancellations 2 days or less before the class/course are not eligible for a refund. Cancellations which are at least 24 hours prior to the class may transfer their booking to another applicable date or find a substitute student to take their place. If you need to cancel after the 7 day window, please contact the store. Wooten Clayworks cannot reschedule with less than 24 hours notice due to the inability to fill the space that was taken from another potential student. Please note there is a 2 student minimum for classes to run. Students will be notified the day prior if the class has to be cancelled and will receive a full refund.
