Wheel Thrown & Sculpted Animal Vessels!

6 Week Course

Started Oct 17
330 US dollars
Wooten Clayworks

Service Description

In this course, students will explore various throwing, altering, and sculpting techniques to create vessels representational of animals! “Zoomorphic” vessels will consist of multiple thrown components that are combined and altered to create various vessels in the guise of animals, such as vases, pitchers, jars, and more. Pieces are not meant to be focused on purely representational elements. Makers will learn to break down the basic principles of animals, gestures, and more to create their own unique pieces, each with their own personality! This is a stacked skillset class. Since students will be altering and sculpting pieces, throwing skills are only required to create basic shapes, such as cylinders, bowls, and enclosed shapes. These forms do not need to be perfectly mastered and the scale of work will vary based on skill level. Students who feel they have a modest understanding of the basics and have taken at least 1-2 sessions of intro to wheel throwing should have no problem participating in this course. Ages 12+ To Bring: Notebook/sketchbook and writing utensil. Laptop or smart device for research. Old clothes or attire you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Your favorite pottery tools. Tool kits will be available for purchase on the first day of class for $15. If students would prefer to bring in tools for class on their own, the following will be required for this class: a metal rib, wooden rib, needle tool, wire tool, sponge, wooden knife, fettling knife, and trimming tools. Additional Costs: Glazing and firing fee: $35 One bag of clay is included in the class cost. Additional clay can be purchased from Wooten Clayworks if desired.
